Lessons Progression
Depending on the classroom environment, this learning resource can be amended as necessary, however the below guidelines have been developed for you to follow. Each lesson is based around 45-60minutes. Students should be informed that this learning resource is an individual learning task, and should be completed on their own however they are able to ask classmates for assistance when needed.
Lesson 1 – Overview of the task – Inform students of the requirements of the assessment task. Notify students of which science investigation they are going to create their digital storyboards from. Demonstrate how to navigate through the webpage resource. Show students the task sheets and marking rubric, highlighting important points in relation to the standards required.
Lesson 2 – Researching Storyboards – Students work through the first webpage ‘What is a storyboard?’ completing the research and activites.
Lesson 3 – Editing Images – Students work through the second webpage ‘Editing Images’ and complete the research and activities.
Lesson 4 – Developing their storyboard designs – Students are given post-it notes (as seen in the video) and instructed to develop a rough plan of what their storyboard process is going to look like. Students may choose to draw their images or simply write about the photos they are going to capture.
Lesson 5 – Develop and Design – Students complete their science experiment/investigation and take photos of the different stages they have outlined in their draft. They can then commence working on their digital storyboards, mainly focusing on editing their images as practiced and getting a rough draft completed.
Lesson 6 – Finalise Storyboard - This lesson students will continue to work on their story board designs. Teacher should gauge an idea of how students are progressing and decide how many lessons their will require to complete their assessment task, including the audio component.
Differentiation and Extension Activities
This learning resource was created to allow teachers to cater for differentiation within their own classroom environments. Majority of the acitivites can be amended to ensure this is possible. Please read below for further suggestions on catering for diversity in your classroom.

Extension:
- Higher students could be required to develop a larger number of slides for their storyboard
- Images could be edited with colour variation (black and white/sepia) or higher level skills (saturation etc).
- Researching the different component allows higher students to investigate higher levelled skills.
- Students could develop a ‘how to’ instruction manual to provide to viewers for further clarification and information.
- For higher level thinking, advanced students could complete a reflection on how effective their final storyboard was in demonstrating the processes taken to complete the science experiment.
Diverse Learning Requirements
- Ability to draw their storyboard if unable to use digital devices.
- Minimal research is provided for them, allowing them to not have to seek out further information if not necessary – basic information this is provided is enough to complete the task.
- Rather than recording the audio, lower students could present their storyboard to their teacher or if comfortable narrate it in front of the class when presenting their storyboards.
- Students can take their images of the science experiment and have them printed out to physically develop their storyboard on project paper rather than using all of the digital technologies.
